Salerno Gallery presents a group exhibition of painted and sculptural works by artists Jennie Pry and Ernest Salerno. The central motif of this show is the swimming costume and the bodies that fill them.
Jennie Pry creates a nostalgic narrative of Australian Beach culture with painted collages of vintage and contemporary swimming costumes. The bathers are located in time and space by a background of maps, pages from children’s books and sewing patterns. Ernest Salerno’s glass and bronze sculptures celebrate the iconic Australian beach body in bronze.
Together, each artist’s work pays homage to quintessential Australian beach culture and playfully celebrates the “beach baby” figure.
