Salerno Gallery presents a group exhibition of painted and photographic works by artists Robbi Wymer and Brigitte Marlot.
Robbi and Brigitte, who originally met working together in a Sydney textile design studio, come together in their second group exhibition, to exhibit works based on themes of the natural and urban environment.
Through the use of mixed media collage and watercolour Robbi’s artwork depicts the constant struggle for our native wildlife to exist within our urban environment. In order to survive in this often cruel environment Man needs to control it and the well-being of those adversely affected by these changes are barely considered. The fluid, unpredictable and uncontrollable nature of watercolour used in her artworks also demonstrates this concept.
However this series also depicts a flickering sense of hope that we as a species do try and sometimes exist in harmony with our natural environment and the other species of the earth.
Robbi is currently working as an art therapist and a visual artist.
Brigitte’s photographic works reflects her experience of living by the ocean in Coogee NSW. She found it an endless source of inspiration in its changing colors and daily moods. Brigitte is particularity interested in the way people interact with it, often singling out and framing them against a landscape of sand and waters, rock and sky.
She is also presenting new images from her series ‘Urban Fragments’ where her focus is on the beautiful but often overlooked mundane elements that create the fabric of our city. Time-worn textures, understated colors, lush vegetation and random shapes come together in her viewfinder in often unexpected ways, creating visuals stories where the composition is the key.
Brigitte Marlot is French born and has studied Photography and Design at the Fine Art school of Calais. She went on to become a textile designer and has worked in France, London, and Sydney where she is now based.
