Opening Night: Thursday 13th of June, 6.00 – 8.00pm
They say a picture paints a thousand words and in this case they may be right.
Simon Lovelace presents us with sexualised pop icons, anime, erotica and zombie gore. Painted on vintage cloth backed, hard bound books he cunningly juxtaposes his images with the original embossed title of each book. Lovelace draws on pop imagery and this subversive and derisive style is reminiscent of 1970’s exploitation film in it’s use of manipulation and previously ‘innocent’ images and characters. Born in England, Lovelace now lives in Sydney and is the Director at blank_space gallery. He exhibits both nationally and overseas and his works are in private collections worldwide.
This is his third exhibition at Salerno Gallery.”Simon Lovelaces work balances intimacy with Kitsch. Alluding to a neo-pop expression, its success lies in the observers desire for a perverse moment, access to a reality they can only live through the artists personal studio time. His art allows a voyeurism often alluded too but restricted by others, genuine rude openness – refreshing”.
