Opening Night: Tuesday 11th December 6.00 – 8.00pm, featuring live music from Anthony Meleca
Peter Rudd‘s paintings explore the distinctive shapes, colours and patterns of the suburban environment of Western Sydney in which he lives. It is an environment marked by the geometry of roofs, fences, poles and pylons, by the tangled lines of serpentine trees, and by the play of sunlight on metal, wood and brick. Rudd’s scholarly interest in French painting of the 19th century is evident in all of his work, as is his keen eye for the characteristic details of the particular part of Sydney he insightfully depicts.
Rudd has taught and lectured in art and art history in NSW secondary schools, and at the Universities of Sydney and Melbourne. He has written on 19th century French painting for the Burlington Magazine, Art Monthly Australia, and the Art Gallery of NSW. This is Peter’s third solo exhibition of painted works.
