In Pursuit of the Sublime

Artists Catherine Ward and Hank Spirek have a combined professional artistic history of over 70 years. Throughout that time their goal has remained a search for the visually sublime.
For these artists the development of the concept of the sublime has been a search for the aesthetic quality in nature distinct from its beauty. The aesthetic quality they seek is accentuated by light, either intensity or its absence, and colour.
“We view our work as being sublime to the degree that it obliterates the casual sight of an object into one with the aspect of universality. In the exhibition we are proposing we will attempt to blend the work of old masters and movements to present day contemporary art into a celebration of the continued evolution of the sublime.”
